SportsHighLight (“SportsHighLight,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the website at sportshighlight.net as an editorial publication covering sports analytics, statistics, and data-driven sports coverage. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit the site, how it is used, who it is shared with, and the choices and rights you have. By using SportsHighLight, you agree to the practices described below. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the site.
1. Scope of this policy
This policy applies to information collected through sportshighlight.net, including subpages, archives, RSS feeds, contact forms, and any newsletter we may operate from the site. It does not apply to third-party websites that we link to in our content, even when those links appear on our pages. Each linked third party operates under its own privacy practices, which you should review independently.
2. Information we collect
We collect two broad categories of information: information you provide directly, and information collected automatically when you browse the site.
2.1 Information you provide
- Contact & correction requests: when you email any of our editorial addresses (such as [email protected]), we receive your name, email address, and the content of your message.
- Newsletter signup: if we operate a newsletter, you may provide an email address. We use it only to send the newsletter you signed up for, and you may unsubscribe at any time.
- Comments: if comments are enabled on a post, the comment system may record the name, email, website, and IP address you supply. WordPress may also generate a Gravatar hash from your email.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Server logs: our web server records standard request data, including IP address, browser user-agent, referrer URL, requested page, response code, and timestamp. This data is retained for a limited period for security, abuse prevention, and performance diagnostics.
- Cookies and local storage: certain cookies are required for the site to function (such as caching cookies set by our hosting layer); others are optional and tied to analytics or advertising. See Section 5 below.
- Approximate location: derived from your IP address, used to deliver region-appropriate content and to comply with regional privacy laws (for example, applying GDPR controls to EU/EEA visitors).
- Device and browser metadata: screen size, operating system, language preference, and similar data, used to debug compatibility issues and to format responsive layouts.
3. How we use information
We use the information described in Section 2 to:
- operate, secure, and maintain the website;
- respond to correction requests, story tips, and partnership inquiries;
- deliver the editorial content you requested;
- measure aggregate readership and identify which content categories are useful;
- detect and prevent abuse, spam, scraping, and security incidents;
- comply with applicable legal obligations and respond to lawful requests; and
- deliver advertising through third-party advertising partners where applicable (see Section 6).
We do not sell personal information for monetary consideration. We do not engage in cross-context behavioral advertising outside the standard practices of the ad networks listed in Section 6.
4. Legal bases for processing (EU/EEA & UK visitors)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process your personal data on the following legal bases under the GDPR and UK GDPR:
- Legitimate interest — for operating, securing, and improving the site, and for measuring aggregate readership;
- Consent — for non-essential cookies, personalized advertising, and any optional newsletter subscription;
- Legal obligation — for record-keeping required by applicable law;
- Performance of a contract — where you have requested a service from us (for example, replying to a correction request).
5. Cookies and similar technologies
SportsHighLight uses cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:
- Strictly necessary cookies: required for core site functions, including caching, security, and load-balancing. These cannot be switched off.
- Performance & analytics cookies: used to understand how the site is used in aggregate (popular categories, time on page, scroll depth). These help us prioritize editorial coverage.
- Advertising cookies: if we serve ads through a third-party network (see Section 6), those networks may set cookies to measure impressions, frequency cap ads, and — where you have consented — personalize ads.
- Functionality cookies: remember your display preferences and similar low-risk settings.
You can control cookies through your browser settings: most browsers let you block or delete cookies, and to receive notifications when a site sets one. Blocking all cookies may break certain site functions. EU/EEA, UK, and California visitors are presented with a consent control where required by law.
6. Advertising and third-party vendors
SportsHighLight may display advertising delivered by third-party advertising networks, including but not limited to Google AdSense, Ezoic, or comparable publisher monetization platforms. When such advertising is active:
- third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits to this website or other websites;
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet;
- you may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out page, or the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page.
In addition to the advertising networks above, we work with the following categories of third-party processors who may receive limited data necessary for their services to function:
- Web hosting & CDN: our hosting provider and Cloudflare (or comparable CDN) handle delivery of pages and assets, and process request logs for performance and security.
- Analytics: we may use first-party or server-side analytics, and may use Google Analytics or comparable platforms to measure aggregate readership.
- Email infrastructure: outbound editorial email may transit standard email service providers.
- Spam protection: comment and contact form submissions may be screened by anti-spam services.
7. Children’s privacy (COPPA)
SportsHighLight is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please email [email protected] and we will delete that information.
8. Your rights under GDPR / UK GDPR
If you are located in the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, you have the following rights with respect to personal data we process about you:
- Right of access — to obtain confirmation of and access to your data;
- Right of rectification — to correct inaccurate or incomplete data;
- Right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”) — to request deletion in certain circumstances;
- Right to restriction — to ask that we restrict processing in certain circumstances;
- Right to data portability — to receive your data in a structured format;
- Right to object — to processing based on legitimate interest;
- Right to withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent;
- Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in your jurisdiction.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected] with the subject line “GDPR request.” We respond to verified requests within 30 days.
9. Your rights under CCPA / CPRA (California)
California residents have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), including:
- the right to know what personal information is collected, used, shared, or sold;
- the right to delete personal information held by us;
- the right to correct inaccurate personal information;
- the right to limit the use and disclosure of sensitive personal information;
- the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information; and
- the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
We do not sell personal information for monetary consideration. To exercise CCPA/CPRA rights, email [email protected] with the subject line “California privacy request.”
10. International data transfers
SportsHighLight is operated globally. Information processed by us and by our service providers may be stored or processed in countries outside your country of residence, including the United States. Where data leaves the EEA/UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses with our processors.
11. Data retention
We retain personal data only for as long as needed for the purpose it was collected:
- server logs are typically retained for 30–90 days;
- email correspondence is retained for as long as the matter is relevant, then archived or deleted;
- analytics data is retained in aggregate form indefinitely; identifiable elements are minimized or deleted on the schedules set by the analytics provider;
- comment data persists as long as the comment is published, and may be removed on request.
12. Security
We use commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the data we hold, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), restricted server access, regular software updates, and isolation of the editorial environment. No system can be guaranteed perfectly secure; if we become aware of a security incident affecting personal data, we will notify affected users where required by law.
13. Do Not Track
Some browsers transmit a Do Not Track (“DNT”) signal. Because there is no consistent industry standard for how to interpret DNT signals, SportsHighLight does not currently respond to DNT browser settings. We do, however, honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where required by law.
14. Links to other websites
SportsHighLight links to other websites for citation, source attribution, and reader reference. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those sites. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of every site you visit.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last reviewed” date at the top of the page and, where required by law, provide additional notice. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the revised policy.
16. Contact
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, want to exercise a privacy right, or wish to report a privacy concern, email [email protected]. For full editorial contact channels (story tips, corrections, partnerships, press), see Contact SportsHighLight.
